Text Message Opt-In

CCRCE and our schools have now switched to a new messaging system for texts, emails, and automated phone calls. This new system is called SchoolMessenger Communicate. As with our previous system, we will continue to use this system to let families know of news, announcements, and other important information.

Please read below for more clarification:

CCRCE has been working with our new messaging provider to create a regional opt-in campaign. Last week, during the set-up of this upcoming text opt-in campaign, a mistake occurred that resulted in an incomplete text message sent out to CCRCE families that might have appeared as spam. We have been working with the company to send out an official opt-in initiation recognizing that some parents and guardians may have already acted on the mistake text invite.

  • Families who ignored the incomplete text message

    • If we have your SMS text phone number on file in PowerSchool, on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, you will be sent an opt-in invitation text message to your cell phone numbers asking recipients to reply that they are willing to receive further text messages. The message will be from a short code 978338 and will state:"Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education messages. Reply Y to confirm, HELP 4 info. Message & data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Schoolmessenger.com/smsca”

    • NEXT STEPS: If you would like to receive text messages from CCRCE/your school, reply Y. If you do not want text messages, reply STOP or go to http://schoolmessenger.com/txtmsg. You will continue to receive emails from your child’s school.

  • Families who replied Y or Yes to the incomplete text message

    • You do not need to do anything as your opt-in has been applied to their School Messenger Communication selections.

  • Families who replied N or STOP to the incomplete text message

    • You can reply Y or Yes to the short code 978338 at any time to opt-in again to receive text messages from CCRCE/their school or to continue your cell number as blocked from receiving text messages; no action is needed.

IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING POWERSCHOOL

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Over the summer, updates were made in our PowerSchool Student Information System which changes how student contacts are managed in the system. Previously, students were limited to parent1, parent2, and up to three emergency contacts. With the move to Student Contacts, schools will be now able to add all the contacts that a student needs, providing full support for different family structures such as parents, stepparents, foster parents, guardians, emergency contacts, etc.

As a result of this change to Student Contacts, all existing Parent Portal accounts have been deleted from our system. To assist parents/guardians with this transition, all parents/guardians with email addresses currently in our student information system have been set up with a new Parent Portal Account (and accounts have even been set up for parents/guardians who previously had no account). The fact that you have received this communication by email means that a new Portal account has been created for you. If this communication has been sent to you in error, please contact the school at the above listed phone number.

If you had a previous Portal account, your new account should behave no differently than your old account, whether it was linked to only one student or several students.

If you already received this communication on behalf of another student, and if you have already reset your password, you do not need to complete the below steps.

To access your new Parent Portal Account:

1. Open a web browser and navigate to the Portal sign in page at: https://sisccrsb.ednet.ns.ca/public.

2. Click on the link: Forgot Username or Password?

3. Click on the Parents tab.

4. Under the Forgot Password? section, enter your Portal Username. Your username is the email address the school has on file for you.

5. Enter your Parent Email Address (use same email address entered in step #4).

6. Click the Reset Password button.

7. A Password Reset Request email will be sent to you. Click the link in the email to reset your password.

8. Once logged in, review your account details and contact the school if you notice any issues such as students no longer linked to your account. Only contact the school in which the student is currently enrolled to resolve any potential issues.
